This is the first machine in the production cycle for expanded polystyrene (EPS).
The Expanded Polystyrene, in bead form, is heated up with steam in pre-expanders to temperatures between approximately 80 and 110ºC, making the volume increase up to 50 times its original size. During this stage, the beads are shaken continuously.
In this stage, the final density of the EPS is determined. Depending on the temperature and exposure time, the bulk density of the material decreases to approximately 630 kg/m3 to densities ranging between 10 – 30 kg/m3.
After pre-expansion, the expanded beads are cooled and dried before being transported to the silos.
